CANBERRA, Australia

Located on Aspen Island in Lake Burley Griffin, the National Carillion was a gift from the British government to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the national capital in 1913.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Max Dupain produced striking images of Australian modernist architecture. This image was taken by Dupain while on assignment in Canberra. It was used to promote the national capital to domestic and international audiences.
