To protect the roots and growth of newly planted cocoa trees, The Cacao Project uses the extra leaves from nearby Anahaw plants to cover the spot where the seedlings were planted. This keeps the soil moist, prevents exposing the roots to too much harsh sun in dry weather, and keeps the soil healthy.
