Designed by the Yeovil architects Petter & Warren (John Petter and Percy J Warren), these houses were based on the principles used by Lt Col Nissen of the Royal Engineers and used in the construction of the First World War Nissen hut. Dating to the 1920s, these pairs of houses use concrete block cavity walls supporting a steel roof structure clad in corrugated-iron sheets.
