Claudia Coca (Lima, 1970) imitates the composition of colonial-era caste paintings (depictions of different forms of miscegenation in the Americas with a clearly discriminatory bias), portraying herself and her husband and child, in order to analyze how discourse surrounding issues of race has been constructed, how such narratives have been used to reinforce the exercise of power by certain ethnic groups over others, and how such structures are perpetuated in our own time.
