In this work, the half figure of the Virgo Lactans stands out against a backdrop of a typically Venetian landscape. Perhaps initially the author imagined a closed background, modifying the composition of the vegetation in the course of the work; in fact, infrared analysis revealed the trace of the preparatory drawing of a forked tree on the right.
