Oboe

Sforzesco Castle

Sforzesco Castle
Milan, Italy

This oboe is made up of four parts in ebony with ivory rings and eight keys in silver alloy. There is currently no biographical information about either the manufacturer or his work. The mark on the instruments states the production site, which was the city of Vercelli. To date his production is witnessed only by two works, both of which are treasured at the Museum of the Sforza Castle, precisely this oboe and a transverse flute (Inv. ST. MUS. 351). Especially the latter, made of ivory and featuring a bass register range that was unusual in this type of model, reveals important personal traits, which certainly encourage future detailed studies on Miglio.
