The ocean sunfish lives mainly in warm seas and is considered the heaviest bony fish in the world. It can weigh up to 2.3 tons. Although they are not edible themselves, ocean sunfish are often caught as bycatch in fishing nets. This has caused their numbers to decrease significantly. Today they are an endangered species.
