There are seemingly irreconcilable temporalities being navigated in Ali Cherri’s Of Men and Gods and Mud – laborious acts and enactments of desire which, on the one hand, struggle to escape the teleological vision of progress, and, on the other, are able to locate through myth-making a means of existing outside historical time.
