One of the greatest difficulties encountered by the army was the maintenance of satisfactory and regular meals. Much of the success of the last expedition against Canudos was due to greater control of the food supply. The recording of meal scenes sought to minimize disorganization in the food supply and present an unusual reality in the daily lives of troops.
