Oblong, right side rounded, left side formed to resemble top of alligator's head, upper edge resembling alligator's back, featuring raised decoration of architectural monument, inscribed "Old City Gates, St. Augustine, Fla." beneath, surrounded by raised form of alligator, whose tail wraps down and around curved right side of box. Reverse features raised decoration of monument, inscribed "Old Fort Marion, St. Augustine, Fla." beneath. Top of alligator's head flips open at jaw line as box lid. Raised scales on alligator's back likely intended as striker.
