永代橋は五代将軍綱吉の五十歳の祝いに架けられ、江戸一番の長橋といわれました。橋脚から望む佃島には摂津国（大阪）から呼び寄せられた漁民が居住し、漁で獲れた白魚を幕府に納入しました。一本だけ大胆に大きく描かれた橋脚奥では篝（かがり）火を焚いて行った白魚漁の夜景が描かれています。
