«Fyodor Fyodorovich created set design and costumes so they would be took as the whole picture that corresponds to the music. He used to say that Musorgsky sounds like oil paintings, dark and “hot” paints. Tchaikovsky is more about light and soft colours as gouache and Glinka is totally transparent water color. Music and painting were inseparable for him.»
