Part 1 of an oral history recorded for the Bronx Latino History Project on September 8, 2021 with Esperanza Martell, Puerto Rican human rights activist, poet, healer, educator, revolutionary, and mentor to many. In this part of her oral history, Esperanza speaks about much of the organizing work she has done in The Bronx over the years, including her time with El Comité, at Lincoln Detox and other community-based alternative healthcare centers, Casa Atabex Aché, and more. She also situates her activism in relation to past and future generations of activists in The Bronx and New York City.
