The award was founded on March 14, 1881 by King Carol I for outstanding merits to the kingdom. In 1932, the outside of the order was changed: the crown in the center was replaced with the founder’s monogram of Carol I. The same monograms between the rays were replaced with crowns. 1St degree Order of the Crown of Romania is featured. Motto of the order: PRIN NOI INSINE – «By our will»
