This carpentry course in Jaroslaw was one of many post World War I vocational training programs in Poland established in response to economic hardship. The classes were run by ORT, the Organization for Rehabilitation through Training, and sponsored by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (“the Joint”), a humanitarian aid organization established at the start of the war to help destitute Jews in Europe and Palestine.
