The main entrance gate for visitors to the Osun Grove these days is this highly imaginative metal work, depicting scenes from the Osun tradition of river procession featuring the Arugba, mermaid figures, drummers, river worship and so on. The Osun Osogbo Sacred Grove, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is located in the town of Osogbo in Osun State, in the South West of Nigeria. This is the town of the famous Osun Osogbo Festival, which is the most imporant traditional showcase in Nigeria today, with thousands of visitors trooping in from around the country and internationally from the African Disapora every year. Osogbo welcomed Autrian artist Susanne Wenger in the laste 1950s, and she went on to start the New Sacred Art Movement, which transformed the Osun Grove over many decades into the world renowned site it is today.
