Hailing from Barmer, Anwar Khan is a leading vocalist and plays the Kamaicha - the signature instrument of the community. Well-known even beyond the community of folk musicians, he has accompanied leading classical musicians such as Vishva Mohan Bhatt, Shashank Subramanyam and also performed with violinist, Yehudi Menuhin. He is a recipient of the Padmashri and Sangeet Natak Award and is the Chairman of the Parmapra Lok Sangit Sansthan.

- About the craft: Manganiyars are hereditary communities of traditional folk musicians living mostly in the Barmer and Jaisalmer districts of western Rajasthan. Their music has survived decades owing to the Jajmani system which is fundamental to their art form and also a source of livelihood. The repertoire of Manganiyar music covers qawwali, sufi songs, bhajans and songs on life cycle, rituals, festivals. The community's identity instrument is the Kamaicha.
