Painting of Our Lady of Sorrows

The painting reprises the iconography of the mater dolorosa mentioned in Simeon’s prophecy in the Gospel of Saint Luke (2:35). The Virgin, surrounded by cherubim, is shown with her chest pierced by a dagger, in a pose of serene resignation.
