Pair of gold hexagonal earrings with brocaded pattern and leaf ornament

Shanghai Guanfu Museum

Shanghai Guanfu Museum
Shanghai, China

The upper part of the earrings are designed and made in the shape of short drum bead, with a perforation hole in the middle. Thick rings are decorated inside the perforation hole, with two gold wire glued underneath the rings so as to connect the leaf and round shape ornaments. Drum beads are decorated with granulation technique in order to design ring bead pattern and other geometric decorations. The geometric decorations are very smiliar to the objects discovered in Southern and Northern Dynasties as well as Sui and Tang Dynasties in China, and somehow influenced by Sogdiana culture. The lower part of the leaf and round ornaments are well connected and also it adopted filigree craftsmanship in order to complete the side edge closure work. The earrings are in a good size and very decorative, which were worn by ancient Korean nobles.
