Incomplete tile with black, yellow, brown and reddish lustre-painting. The complete ground of the tile is covered with mottled red, yellow and brown painting, imitating stone. Above that lies a large wreath of yellow and white leaves; in its middle appears a rooster figure with slightly spread wings and long tail feathers. The corners are filled with palmettes. The anatomical details of the animal and all of the contours are executed in black. The rooms of the palaces in Samarra, but also these of private houses, were not only covered with ornamented stucco panels, but also with elaborately produced wall and floor tiles of glazed ceramic and glass. The rooster tiles were combined with narrow hexagonal tiles like Sam 946 b or Sam 812 g with their mottled painting to a larger frieze.
