Small subrectangular palette manufactured from dark gray phyllite. Specimen has a deeply worn central area with brownish-orange staining. The pallette's edges are embellished with short, rather deeply incised lines, perpendicular to the edge; a groove has been carved around the edges of the palette. The underside has a few short incised lines which line up with their counterparts on the top, and seem to have been made at the same time. This palette was recovered from the floor of a room located on the platform mound at Pueblo Grande. Pueblo Grande was a large village located at the headgates of a major canal system. Occupied as early as AD 500, the site reached its greatest extent during the Classic Period. Museum Accession: 1992.18
