Uffizi Gallery
Florence, Italy

This canvas is mentioned in the 1498 inventory of the Florentine residence of Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de'Medici. It was probably commissioned by Lorenzo il Magnifico, as a gift for his cousin Lorenzo, on occasion of his marriage to Semiramide Appiani in 1482. In fact, it refers to the "accomplishments" of Lorenzo il Magnifico's family, represented by the intertwining rings with diamonds decorating the robes of the goddess.
