In the Villa Borghese in Rome, Thorvaldsen copied several of the painted decorations in the building. These were made in 1788 by Vincenzo Berrettini, using the trompe l’oeuille technique to create the illusion of reality. Cupid is seen repeatedly, as the overarching theme was love. Thorvaldsen modelled a relief representing Pan and Cupid in 1838.
