Description: Villegas belonged to a new generation of abstract artists in postwar Colombia and developed an interest in Joaquin Torres Garcia’s abstract theories, known as constructive universalism, leading to abstractions of delicate chromatic values sensitive to the earthly hues of Pre-Colombian textiles. The geometric motifs in Panorama Electrico recall in particular the Tocapus, the characteristic geometric designs that adorned Incan ponchos. Villegas merged these Pre-Colombian references with modernist pictorial trends. -Text by Francesca Giani
