Starting in the XVIII century, the best maps were produced in Paris, under the auspices of French King Louis XIV, ending an era of Dutch superiority in cartography. This map belongs to the book, "Corso Geografico Universale", by the Venetian cartographer, Vincenzo Coronelli who was recognized for his production of globes for the French court. The engraving uses the classical work that covered the geographical area of the provinces of Guadalajara, Jalisco; Michoacán and Mexico City, revealed in 1570 in the atlas of "Theatrum Orbis Terrarum" by the geographer Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) for Philip II, the Spanish monarch.
