Clinetonians Lantern Club built a lantern depicting a full-size double decker bus in both 1993 and 1997. Such buses were once in use on the streets of Freetown. The skeleton (frame) was made from fence sticks (from mangrove swamps or the monkey apple tree), strips of palm pith (from the midribs of raffia palm branches) and timber. Mosquito netting was used to cover parts of the skeleton in order to provide a surface to which to glue an outer layer of brown paper.
