The Patachitra depicts popular folklore of Manasa Mangal Kavya. Goddess Manasa (Goddess of snakes or serpentine Goddess) is regarded as one of the most powerful and revered of all non-Aryan deities in the Hindu pantheon. The story of Manasa Mangal begins with the conflict of the merchant Chand Sadagar with Manasa and ends with Chand Sadagar becoming an ardent devotee of Manasa. This Patachitra shows Goddess Manasa being worshiped by many but Chand Sadagar, before he became a devotee.
