The Patachitra narrates the story of Manasa Mangal Kavya, a popular folklore of Bengal. The Patachitra shows the death of the seven sons of Chand Sadagar when he refused to worship Goddess Manasa. And how Behula, the newly wed daughter-in-law of Chand refused to accept her husband's death. She placed her husband's corpse on a banana raft and set out on a difficult and dangerous journey across the river towards the abode of the Gods. Despite all the dangers and temptations she encountered, Behula steadfastly continued and completed her journey successfully.

The songs are called Pater Gaan. One of the fascinating aspects of Patachitra is the use of natural colours derived from local sources like fruits and flowers. The Patuas paint and sing on various themes like mythological tales, historical and contemporary themes and social issues.
