Within the boundaries of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, located in China’s Hunan Province, stand more than 3,000 unique pillarlike rock formations known as peak forests. These peaks, which can rise as high as 350 meters (1,148 feet) into the sky, inspired the floating islands in the movie Avatar.
