Douglas, Isle of Man

On the sketch is written: "Sketch of part of Peel Castle, Isle of Man. This castle stands in the sea on a bold and massy rock. The time when it was founded is uncertain. The hole is still pointed out where the Mauthe Dhoo is said to have come through into the Guard Room and lay down before the fire in presence of all the soldiers. The walls are flanked with towers and enclose an irregular polygon whose area contains upwards of three Acres. They are built of Clay slate little hewn and are coigned and faced with red and sandstone. Will Latham, c.1815."
