In 2016 a team in Australia developed completely synthetic proteins called SNAPPs (structurally nano-engineered antimicrobial peptide polymers) that rip bacteria apart. They may represent the next revolution in medicine, but bacteria are always evolving and these proteins only present one way to fight infection. We will constantly need to innovate to fight off superbugs as they arise.
