Phoenix temporary prefabricated homes were developed in the 1930s by John Laing, McAlpine and Henry Boot Ltd. Constructed using a timber frame with asbestos cladding, 2,428 were manufactured and erected all over Britain. Surviving examples in Moseley, Birmingham were listed for their special architectural and historic significance in 1998.
