As part of the celebrations of the National Exhibition of 1872, a zoo was built in Lima with several animals from different locations of Peru and some from other places around the world. After the occupation of Lima due to the War of the Pacific, the zoo was rebuilt and new animals were brought. In 1885 the first donations from residents of the city were recorded, among the species brought there was the deer, a herbivorous mammal that can be found on the Peruvian coast and sierra.
