Photograph of an owl, included in the album of photographic miniatures by José María Eguren from the archives of the National Library of Peru.
The first zoo and botanical garden of Lima was located in what today is known as Parque de la Exposicion of Lima. It was inaugurated in 1872 to show the Peruvian fauna and flora. The zoo was rebuilt after a war and remained in the same location until almost the middle of the 20th century. This was a space for fun and relax where you could find different and caged animal species such as owls, a type of nocturnal bird of prey.
