In 1842, the photograph industry arrived to Peru. French photographers and from other nationalities arrived into the Peruvian territory and implemented photographic studies that recorded the times. The sale of photographs became part of a commercial circuit focused on the elites, but with the advancement and cheapening of reproductive technologies, a more dynamic market appeared: that of the sale of the visiting cards. Likewise, the press and editorial media illustrated their texts by using photographs, transforming the images into engravings, initially through the use of woodcut to achieve their printing.
