VAZ
2108 EVA
Production 1084-1986
The aim to build an automobile that could compete in Group B rallies without humiliation grew into the Vilnius Workshop’s most ambitious project: the EVA is often regarded as the first Lithuanian automobile. Indeed, hardly much of the original automobile is left here. The -wheel drive VAZ 2108 in the USSR may have piqued the statistical buyer’s fascination. However, in order to bring the car out on serious rally courses, the engine was moved to the rear of the car in the Vilnius Workshop. After modifications the engine may produce 200 (naturally aspirated SOHC) or even 300 (turbocharged DOHC) horsepower, depending on the modification. The front and back body panels were removed and replaced with fiberglass-reinforced plastic covers, which not only made the car lighter but also made servicing easier. Following the deadly incidents on race courses, Group B was dissolved, and EVA was no longer mass-produced.
