John Bland was a music publisher who helped change musical history by being among those who invited Haydn to travel to London. Haydn spent his first night in London in Bland’s house. It was Bland who commissioned the famous portrait of Haydn painted by Thomas Hardy, now in the collection of the Royal College of Music.
