View across the Piazza del Popolo of the twin churches of S. Maria in Montesanto on the left, and S. Maria dei Miracoli on the right, behind the Obelisk of Ramses II.
Viewing Notes: This view from the Porto del Popolo shows the twin churchs of S. Maria in Montesanto on the left and S. Maria dei Miracoli on the right behind the Obelisk of Ramases II. The Obelisk, brought to Rome by Augustus and erected in the Circus Maximus was placed in 1589 at the center of the Piazza under the direction of Pope Sixtus V. While studying at the Académie de France in Rome, Lallemand came in contact with Challe and Le Lorraine, also featured in this exhibition.
