Plaque commemorating the Africans transported into slavery from Bunce Island.

This plaque commemorates the thousands of African men, women and children who were transported into slavery from Bunce Island, Sierra Leone, into slavery between 1670 and 1807.
The biggest British slave-trading company operating from here was the Royal Africa Company, headed up by James Duke of York, the future Stuart king, James II of England. The plaque was created by a BBC History team and is one of twenty placed around the world by the series Black and British: A Forgotten History to mark a significant people and events in British history.
