Patriotic symbols abound on this bronze-plated cast iron commemorative plaque. At the center, a bald eagle and the Liberty Bell are encircled by the phrase “Proclaim liberty throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof MDCCLXXVI.” Eight medallions around the rim include profiles of George Washington, John Quincy Adams and Abraham Lincoln; an image of “Independence Hall”; a handshake and the inscription “Peace and Friendship”; an image of the Revolutionary army; an agricultural vignette; and two female figures representing Europe and America, with the inscription “See how we prosper/Centennial 1876.”
