Remarkable Parisian tree: Common plane (Platanus x hispanica), Parc Montsouris, Circumference: 605 cm, Height: 30 m, Planted in 1840. A typical species of the Platanaceae family, the common plane is a hybrid between Eastern and Western plane trees. It is characterised by its marbled bark and palmate leaves similar to those of the flat maple. The plane tree is a typical species of the Second Empire plantation; hence its predominance in the alignments that lined the streets of Paris at the time.
