This facsimile was printed in 1977 from the collections of original watercolours purchased by Tsar Peter the Great in 1717, held in the Archives and Library of the Academy of Sciences of the U.S.S.R. in Leningrad. 'Butterflies, beetles and other insects: the Leningrad book of notes and studies' is a two volume publication with 119 colour plates and a separate volume of text.
