Playbill for A New Way to Pay Old Debts

This playbill for Wednesday November 18th 1818 advertises the first performance at the Theatre Royal in Richmond of the English Renaissance comedy A New Way to Pay Old Debts (c. 1625) by Philip Massinger. Massinger’s play had been revived by David Garrick in 1748 and Edmund Kean’s portrayal of Sir Giles Overreach at Drury Lane in 1816 had been a great popular success, as indicated on the playbill.
