A pocket watch in a gold case with a portrait of Adam Mickiewicz. The Limoges enamel portrait depicts the bust of the poet within an ornamental frame. An inscription: “No. 2201/Invented and made by/ Patek and Company/ in Geneva”. The enamelled watch dial indicates hours and minutes. The watch has a winding mechanism using a crown. The watch was made by the Geneva watchmaking company Patek Philippe. The origins of the company go back to 1839. It was founded by Antoni Norbert Patek, an insurgent of the Polish November Uprising in 1830. In 1845, Patek started collaboration with Adrien Philippe who created the first winding mechanism using a crown. As a result, winding keys for watches were no longer needed. In 1851 the company was eventually named Patek Phillipe. Its co-owners set themselves the goal of producing the most beautiful and best-quality watches in the world.
