Poles preparing aid packages for Hungarians

The outbreak of the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 started with a demonstration of sympathy with Polish workers and a spark of hope for changing the situation in Hungary, just as it was happening in Poland, with the nomination of Władysław Gomułka for First Secretary of the Party in spite of a Moscow’s dislike of him. However, events in Hungary were put down bloodily by Soviet forces. In reaction, Poles started to send Hungarians aid packages and they organized big voluntary blood donation for injured.
