Small polishing stone. Raw material is an extremely fine grained stone. Surface is very glossy, covered with fine, regular scratches. The reddish orange areas on the surface and in fine cracks appear to be pigment stains. This polishing stone was recovered from the floor of a house at the site of Pueblo Grande. Pueblo Grande was a large village located at the headgates of a major canal system. Occupied as early as AD 500, the site reached its greatest extent during the Classic Period. Museum Accession: 1992.18
