Small deciduous tree up to 5 m high and native to the Iranian-Turanian region, although since very old times it has spread throughout the Mediterranean basin due to its cultivation. Its flowers are large, showy and have thick sepals of an intense reddish color. The fruits are known pomegranates, which mature from September to October and persist for quite some time on the plant.
