Eero Järnefelt's artistic eye for nature was drawn by wide and narrow views alike. Both the broad and the intimate view of Finnish nature show the artist's dedication to truthfulness in everything he did. Pond Water Crowfoot is a close-up. The delicate, beautiful plant stalk on the water has been painted in its genuine ecological environment. The strength of the painting lies not only in the plant itself, but also in the transparency of the water and the movement of wind over the water. The opposite shore and rocks on the bottom of the lake are also masterfully crafted. For all its realism, this interpretation comes very close to the Impressionist desire to capture the moment. Still waters were a favourite theme with Eero Järnefelt. It is not known where Pond Water Crowfoot was painted, but it has a strong Nordic spirit.
