"My starting point was a feathered star block which I adapted by curving all the lines to give it a contemporary feel with a sense of movement. As free-motion quilting is my favorite part of the process I left large plain areas of cloth to be filled with heavy machine quilting including areas of trapunto. Creating my own design involved drawing the whole thing full size and creating templates, dying the fabrics to achieve the colors I wanted, piecing which took about 3 months and finally the quilting, which took another 3 months before it was complete."
