Description: The face seen in profile here suggests that of the famous critic Félix Fénéon (1861-1944), whom Forain probably met in the early 1880s. In 1884, Fénéon mentioned Forain among “the painters who are inspired by Manet without copying him” and whom “the public must seek to understand.”
